IHBC’s ‘All you need to know for…’ Christmas update

There’s lots happening in the IHBC just now, and in advance of more details on recent achievements and new plans in our forthcoming Membership eletter update, here are some tasters to keep you ticking over during the break:

  • The CP25 Stage 1 Consultation on our evolving Corporate Plan for 2020-25, is under way with this first stage closing 1 January
  • Our annual CP20 update, from 2018-19 (Year 4 of 5), on progress with our current Corporate Plan for 2015-20 (CP20) is coming to a NewsBlog in the New Year
  • The Constitutional update is progressing well, following on from the membership’s wholesale support for the ‘Future Governance’ proposals presented by James Caird to the Nottingham AGM in July. The current draft update on the IHBC’s constitution will be out for consultation in early January, informed by an accessible briefing.
  • Our ‘Local delivery (Branch) CPD training pilot’, supporting priority CPD areas, will open to calls from Branches early in 2020
  • Application support, from MATEs to ‘MAGE’s, is evolving as Ramona Usher continues to build on Kate Kendall’s work on the MATE programme. Free Membership Application Training Events  – MATE sessions – are on offer to Branches and employers , while Ramona is also leading on developing a second stage programme for the more detailed ‘crit’-style review of submissions.  These are being developed as our ‘Membership Accreditation Guidance Events’, or MAGE sessions!
  • Enhanced services for HESPR members – the support service for bodies working to conservation and service standards expected by the IHBC – continue to progress, with a map-based listing of Office locations of HESPR Designated Service Advisers launched during the year and ever-improving News and Tender Alerts. Plans are also under way for more proactive support for MATE sessions with HESPR members, as well as an advisory forum, so JOIN NOW to make the best of the IHBC’s dedicated support
  • A new All Party Parliamentary Group, dedicated to investigating and promoting conservation in line with the IHBC’s ambitions, as reported in our October eLetter to members, is another priority for the early part of 2020.

Other plans for the coming year – on top of our usual services of course – include:

  • Council+: The Spring event with take place at the Art Workers Guild, Queens Square, London on 23 April with themes to be led by member volunteers, with details available in the New Year
  • Formally launching our new dedicated charity fund, the ‘IHBC’s CREATIVE Conservation Fund’, intimated in our October eLetter
  • Re-booting the IHBC’s local authority capacity survey
  • Continuing the upgrade of our CPD support, including a regular new CPD Update that builds on the lessons from the Branch Events NewsBlog, integrating with CPD priority opportunities from the IHBC’s Recognised CPD Providers list and the institute’s recently re-cast Events Calendar
  • Updating and extending the reach of our Caring for your home public resource, while enhancing cross-links to our Conservation Wiki and its focus on more specialist user interests
  • Extending our development of the ToolBox resource for members, including new Research and Guidance Notes, as well as updating content on practice Standards.
