IHBC’s COVID-19 signpost 24: Update from THA

logoNoting that the current coronavirus outbreak is causing concern amongst across its membership and the sector more widely The Heritage Alliance (THA) is continuing to advocate on behalf of the sector, including with regular meetings and communications with DCMS.

THA writes:

We continue to update our members through regular emails with guidance and support. We have also created a live COVID-19 Guidance Hub for the wider sector, which we will continue to update as the situation develops.

  • To supplement the funding information in our Guidance Hub, we have created a separate Funding Hub listing potential sources of funding for heritage organisations during the COVID-19 crisis.
  • The Heritage Funding Directory, co-managed between the Heritage Alliance and the Architectural Heritage Fund [Alliance member] is a useful resource that lists grants and funding opportunities for heritage organisations.
  • The webinars from our past project Giving to Heritage are still available online and include a wealth of advice for funding different activities.

Furloughing and Volunteering

The furloughing of staff has hit many organisations in our sector hard. However, staff on furlough are still able to undertake training and CPD. Undertaking training can give staff the skills they need to help organisations in the recovery phase from the current crisis.

  • Historic England has produced some guidance for undertaking CPD, which is particularly helpful to those facing furlough of their roles: Self-guided reading for Continuing Professional Development.
  • Other organisations in the sector offer CPD courses, which can be used at this time, for example:
    • IHBC’s list of recognised CPD providers
    • Training and CPD resources from the Institute of Conservation (ICON)
    • GEM resources for museum and heritage education practitioners
    • CPD Guidance for CIfA Accredited Archaeologists
    • Many other organisations are offering free online courses and training, some of which are listed under ‘Activities and educational resources’ in our COVID-19 Guidance H
