‘As to answers, and to moving forward, the IHBC will build on these 2020 School themes in our planned ‘in person’ Brighton School in 2021, which will expand on our ‘OLD TOWNS | NEW FUTURES’ theme.  Then, hopefully, we will all be able to tackle the myriad challenges faced by our towns and their rural and metropolitan neighbours, but in person this time.’

Lone Le Vay, IHBC Vice Chair and co-lead for the 2021 Brighton School, said: ‘As a global event the Virtual School gathered lots of great ideas about reinventing our urban places and highlighted the positive opportunities provided by the historic environment in contributing to the creation of vibrant, inclusive and resilient towns, cities and neighbourhoods as we come out of the pandemic.’

‘I look forward to these ideas being explored further next year at our School in Brighton in 2021.’

IHBC Director Seán O’Reilly said: ‘This Virtual School was a both a last-minute pandemic-shaped plan, and a first for our core team of technical experts and support, and we’re delighted it all passed off so well.’

‘It also means that we’re ready now to build on the lessons learned here, and extend our services to help support our members and the great work they do is helping value, manage and sustain historic places of all types and character.’

‘We’re also offering Virtual School delegates a plethora of post-event CPD reference and support, making sure that they get the very best support possible from the entire Virtual School experience.’
