IHBC with AABC and EASA and more endorse RIBA’s 2 new professional services contracts for conservation

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has launched two brand new professional services contracts for the provision of conservation architectural services, with both also endorsed by the IHBC, the Register of Architects Accredited in Building Conservation (AABC) and the Ecclesiastical Architects and Surveyors Association (EASA).

The RIBA writes:

The first, the RIBA Domestic Professional Services Contract 2020: Conservation Architectural Services, is devised for contracts with a domestic client/project where the Consumer Rights Act applies.

…new contracts have been specifically tailored for conservation projects…

The second, the RIBA Concise Professional Services Contract 2020: Conservation Architectural Services, is devised for commercial clients/projects.

Based on the RIBA standard professional services contracts, these new contracts have been specifically tailored for conservation projects, with the schedule of services revised accordingly. Specific conservation architectural services – such as preparing a statement of significance and/or a conservation statement; contacting statutory heritage and ecclesiastical bodies; and preparing and/or submitting information for listed building or scheduled monument or ecclesiastical consent – have been included together with a more detailed definition of the key conservation terms.

The new contracts have been prepared under the direction of the RIBA Conservation Group and are supported and endorsed by the IHBC, the Register of Architects Accredited in Building Conservation (AABC) and the Ecclesiastical Architects and Surveyors Association (EASA).

The contracts are available to purchase in digital format via RIBA Contracts Digital (www.ribacontracts.com) and traditional paper copies are available from the RIBA Shop. RIBA Contracts Digital allows users to create, alter, manage and view contracts in one secure location, before printing a final version as many times as is required.

What is the RIBA Domestic Professional Services Contract 2020: Conservation Architectural Services?

It is for use with a consumer client, relating to work to the client’s own home – including renovations and extensions on older and historic buildings, traditional (pre-1919) buildings and designated buildings, such as listed buildings.

What is the RIBA Concise Professional Services Contract 2020: Conservation Architectural Services?

This contract is an appointment contract for conservation architectural services for simple, non-complex, commercial projects of any value. It has been devised as an agreement between an architect and/or consultant and a business client or a public authority, which includes charities, religious organisations and not-for-profit bodies.
