Record entries to IHBC’s 2020 Gus Astley Student Awards: ‘… a great time to have the IHBC’s CREATIVE Conservation Fund up and running’!

logoThe  IHBC is delighted to announce a record number of entries for the IHBC Gus Astley Student Awards for 2020, with more than 50 submissions, with entrants thanked and non-members offered free ‘taster’ Affiliate memberships, and as future awards and bursaries will be supported by the IHBC’s CREATIVE Conservation Fund, it’s ‘a great time to have the … Fund up and running!’

IHBC Director Seán O’Reilly said: ‘Once again the pandemic seems to have encouraged our member networks to achieve even more, as our entries this year passed the half-century mark for the first time, with more than 50 submissions.’

‘No doubt additional factors such as the extended entry date – to the end of August –  and the pandemic itself, have contributed to the rush we saw in the closing weeks. However we continue to see a very high quality across the entries, so the quantity is not reducing the quality.’

…more than 50 submissions…

‘This flourish of entries also means we can aim to extend even further the suite of awards attached to the programme.  Not only will we continue the range of special mentions and commendations, but also include new awards for specialist areas such as the ‘Booth Bird’ prize, presented in the 2019 Awards for a Conservation Plan.’

‘The new IHBC CREATIVE Conservation Fund – our dedicated fund exclusively delivering on the IHBC’s charitable activities like the IHBC’s Gus Astley Student Awards and bursaries for the 2021 Brighton School– will help us better represent the full breadth of conservation learning today’.
