Is COP26 helping you realise just how serious your staff or career planning actually is? Stay ahead with ‘IHBC Jobs etc.’, as posts range from Design Review and DACs to surveying (Royal Household) and more

To help employers and practitioners, the IHBC regularly updates NewsBlog readers on the diverse career opportunities advertised in our ‘IHBC Jobs etc.’ service, as posts range from Design Review to the Directorial (Glasgow), DACs (Carlisle) and surveying (Royal household) so sign up for free alerts and ‘stay ahead’ with the IHBC’s ‘Jobs etc.’ service!

IHBC Director Sean O’Reilly said: ‘For this round of the ‘Jobs etcservice the clear headline is the sheer diversity of roles represented here: Design Review from Greater Cambridge, the Director post at Glasgow Building Preservation Trust, DAC Secretary (Carlisle) and Building Surveyor (Royal Household).  Not one of these posts specifies ‘conservation’ in the title, but all are looking – and paying for – the IHBC’s ‘Jobs etc.’ service to find the best candidates!

‘Inevitably these Jobs etcservice posts reflect the exceptionally wide spectrum of relevant roles, all also encompassed in the skills sets represented in the IHBC Areas of Competence and the Conservation Cycle.  Those practice areas are detailed in our MATE application support sessions and guidance, and in the model we use to assess interdisciplinary competence in line with international conservation practice standards.’

Also well represented this round are more familiar titles for posts, titles that capture well the broader skills sets that range right across our Competences.  So ‘Conservation Officers’ are sought for the Greater Cambridge Shared Planning Service (GCSP); Ashford (Conservation/Senior Conservation Officer); Swindon; South Derbyshire and at Warwick District Council, which seeks an Assistant Conservation Officer.

As usual too, other linked roles show the wider or more specialist context of conservation skills, as Fareham seeks Conservation Planner, Pembrokeshire an ‘Historic Building’ Conservation Officer, Monmouthshire a Heritage Management Officer and Carmarthenshire an ‘Enforcement and Monitoring Officer’ for ‘Planning and Built Heritage’.

The range of employers this round reflects past reviews of our Jobs etc service, but with smaller numbers.  Large employers are best represented by Historic England’s search for an Inspector of Historic Buildings and Areas and a Development Advice Team Leader.

Heritage charities are represented by Perth and Kinross Heritage Trust’s call for an Outreach and Promotion Officer.  Sitting between the two scales and types, the Churches Conservation Trust (CCT) is looking for a Regeneration Officer.

Similarly, in this round, the private sector is represented by HCUK Group’s search for an Associate Director – Heritage.

In summary, recent posts include those below (all with different application dates, some closed and with external links inactive):
