HES writes:

Historic Environment Scotland (HES) has welcomed grant in aid funding of £70.1 million as part of the Scottish Government’s 2022-2023 Budget.

HES looks after over 300 historic properties, and their associated collections across Scotland on behalf of Scottish Ministers, as well as providing outreach, educational and cultural activities to support its aspirations to deliver ‘Heritage for All’. The organisation also provides a core statutory and regulations function in Scotland’s planning system.

The budget confirmation reflects the continued impact of COVID-19 on the work of HES and the funding will allow HES to help protect jobs and prioritise resources and activities to make a positive contribution and impact on Scotland’s key national outcomes and agendas, including green recovery, digital access and innovation and inclusion and wellbeing.

The funding will also support skills and jobs as well as championing the sustainable re-use of Scotland’s historic buildings via HES’ annual grants programme.

The organisation will set out its route map for the next twelve months through its Annual Operating Plan which is published each Spring.
