IHBC’s 2022 School, #IHBCAberdeen2022 – Delving deeper: Culture Secretary’s valuing, and how virtual delegates matter

Bringing in-person and virtual delegates together at #IHBCAberdeen2022 meant anyone interested could join in the Day School – and even more at our Heritage MarketPlace –  and here some key players headline its ambitions and achievements.

‘… the importance of working together towards climate resilience…’

Scotland’s Culture Secretary Angus Robertson said in his live-stream video: ‘By coming together for the Aberdeen 2022 School you are showing your commitment to raising a greater awareness and appreciation of the importance of working together towards climate resilience and sustainability for our built heritage’

Social Media adviser for the School’s virtual delegates and networks, Dr Alison McCandlish, said: ‘I really enjoyed attending the Annual School as a virtual delegate this year.  It was a fascinating mix of speakers and themes, including the warm welcome from Scotland’s Culture Secretary.’

… IHBC Happy Hour at the MarketPlace was a lot of fun too…

‘Getting an insight into places ‘on the edge’ was also really interesting as delegates clearly learned about new policy and practice areas, and heard about topics that challenged our ideas of what is defined as heritage.

‘And attending from home didn’t mean I missed out on meeting people or chatting. Afterwards I was able to get in touch with people I had met in Wednesday’s free virtual Heritage MarketPlace – which had opened the Full School programme on 15 June.’

‘The informal IHBC Happy Hour at the MarketPlace was a lot of fun too, as the new format for 2022 meant we could peek into breakout rooms offering CPD, and ask questions too!’

‘All highly recommended indeed!’

…especially delighted with the opening welcome from Scotland’s Culture Secretary Angus Robertson…

IHBC Chair David McDonald said: ‘We were of course especially delighted with the opening welcome from Scotland’s Culture Secretary Angus Robertson.  School delegates, whether in-person or, as Alison attests, joining virtually, clearly appreciated his high-level recognition and understanding of our ambitions for Aberdeen, not only for the School itself, but its place in our 25th anniversary year: IHBC25.’
