Bursaries from the IHBC’s UK-wide allocation are still available for the 2024 Annual School in Reading, 12/13-15 June – #IHBCReading2024 – on ‘Place & Building Care: Finance, policy & people in conservation practice’, offering some of the most accessible and essential learning & CPD, at the interfaces of finance and law.

Two IHBC Marsh Awards, developed in partnership with the Marsh Charitable Trust celebrate, respectively, civic contributions by retired IHBC members and successful learning in heritage skills, offer awards of £500 and free places at IHBC’s 2024 Annual School in Reading for presentations on June 14, with Award entries closing 31 March 2024.

IHBC features ‘Heritage from the (skateboard) park’: Livingston Skatepark is now officially a listed structure!
Historic Environment Scotland (HES) have just announced that Livingston skatepark has officially been designated as a ‘listed structure category B’, reports Skateboard Scotland.

IHBC features ‘Heritage from the doorstep’: Historic Welsh pub to reopen, with urinal, after rebuild 10 miles down the road
In 2012, the owners of The Vulcan formally offered The Vulcan for dismantling, relocation and rebuilding at St Fagans Museum, which now reports that it is in the final stages of reopening as a fully working pub – even featuring the urinals, which date back to a renovation in 1915.

Changes to various permitted development rights in England: to 09/04
This consultation on changes to permitted development rights in England seeks views on changes to several existing permitted development rights that allow for householder development, building upwards to create new homes, the demolition of certain buildings and rebuild as homes, electric vehicle charge points and air source heat pumps, closing 09/04.

Scope and options tabled for delivery of Palace of Westminster restoration: More time needed so next government decides…
The restoration of the Palace of Westminster will be ‘reasonably ambitious’ in scope and take between 11 and 17 years, with both Houses possibly decanting for the majority, the Restoration and Renewal (R&R) Client Board has revealed, as decision on what to do will likely be delayed till after election to allow more time to assess options.

Scotland’s Climate Change Committee: 2030 climate goals are no longer credible
Continued delays to the updated climate change plan and further slippage in promised climate policies mean that the Climate Change Committee no longer believes that the Scottish Government will meet its statutory 2030 goal to reduce emissions by 75%. There is no comprehensive strategy for Scotland to decarbonise towards Net Zero.

‘Guidelines on innovative/emerging cultural heritage education and training paths’ analyses the distinctive features of education and training (E&T) for cultural heritage (CH) professions in Europe, distils the CHARTER findings of what makes heritage E&T innovative and emerging and attempts an outlook on those segments (‘pathways’) of heritage E&T, all of which promise the greatest future potential.
