IHBC Director Sean O’Reilly said: ‘Our ‘heads up’ update on career opportunities for this round of our ‘IHBC Jobs etc.’ service pins down the huge variety of roles and employers looking to us for both core conservation skills and heritage-related competences.

‘The spread ranges from Historic England’s Senior Listing Adviser to specialist and advisory Report Writer & Senior Built Heritage Consultant with Heritage 21.  The list also includes calls for consultative roles from Croydon Design Review Panel – for Panel Member & Chair – as well as very practical, fabric and materials focussed responsibilities: Facilities Co-ordinators with The Landmark Trust; Lime Products Sales and Support Advisor with Ty-Mawr Lime, and Property Manager at The Bishop’s Palace, Wells.

‘Local councils, church bodies and charities also remain key community service providers of heritage advice and support, and of attendant posts and careers.

For conservation service these include North York Moor’s Heritage & Conservation Officer, Yorkshire East Riding’s Principal Conservation Officer and Conservation Officer; Croydon Council’s Lead Conservation Officer; King’s Lynn and West Norfolk’s call for a  Principal Conservation Officer, and Dorset Council’s search for a Conservation Assistant.  A parallel role is that of Church Buildings Officer advertised by the Diocese of Oxford.

More operational roles that will likely interface closely with such posts – and in turn gain from a knowledge of their operation – include The Victorian Society’s Conservation Adviser; Hampstead Garden Suburb Trust’s Architectural Support Officer; York Georgian Society’s ‘Co-ordination Officer’ and The Bath & North East Somerset Council’s High Street Project Manager.

‘Clearly all our Jobs etc posts reflect the exceptionally wide spectrum of relevant roles encompassed by the IHBC’s accreditation model, the IHBC Areas of Competence, and the skills represented there.’

‘To find out more on such matters, our MATE sessions support application and assessment for accreditation, and are also tied of the IHBC’s Competences and Conservation Cycle.  As such they help align applicants’ skills to the principles we use to assess interdisciplinary competence in line with national and international conservation practice standards.’
