STBA writes:

STBA’s voice continues to contribute to developing policy and standards. In BS40104 we are playing a major role in the development of a standard for the assessment of dwellings for retrofit, and we continue to serve on the PAS 2035 update Steering Group. The annual Conference: Sustaining Buildings 2022, Edinburgh with co-host SPAB Scotland, was a resounding success. The sold out event was packed with discussions in which expert speakers presented: Scottish Policy and Practice, Research, Education and Training and (thermal) Comfort.   Our Director Nigel Griffiths continues to promote our work to a wide variety of audiences. This year he has made presentations to BEIS’s local authority group (HULA), the Net Zero Webinar series, the Church of England (on embodied energy with SPAB), the Royal Town Planning Institute, Cambridge University and the Yorkshire National Parks. Our work is held in increasingly high regard both in the UK and internationally.

Looking forward to 2023, our programme includes:

  • Guidance for planning and conservation officers
  • Engagement with the emerging National Retrofit Hub
  • Serving on the Advisory Panel for the Heat Strategy for Wales
  • Potential participation in a major pan-European project on decision-making tools for historic buildings
