Non-Executive Director sought for UK National Commission for UNESCO, to 14/11

The UK National Commission for UNESCO is inviting applications for a pro bono Non-Executive Director (NED) with expertise and experience in the field of Culture with a focus on the World Heritage Convention, closing 14/11.

Would you like to work with the UK’s UNESCO designations, with the UK government, UNESCO and its member states?

The UK National Commission for UNESCO is inviting applications for a pro bono Non-Executive Director (NED) with expertise and experience in the field of Culture (with a focus on World Heritage).

The UK National Commission for UNESCO is seeking to appoint a voluntary Non-Executive Director to its Board to take responsibility for part of the Culture Portfolio, with a focus on the World Heritage Convention.  The closing date for applications is 17:00 GMT on Tuesday 14 November.

Although this appointment does not come within the remit of the Commissioner for Public Appointments, it is being made using a process which takes into account the Commissioner’s Code of Practice as best practice. Appointment will be ratified by the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs (FCDO).

Since 2021 the Culture Portfolio has been split between 2 Culture Directors. This call for applications relates in particular to the World Heritage Convention with an overview of the UK’s World Heritage related UNESCO designations.

The Culture Director can anticipate providing expert advice to UK and Devolved Governments on World Heritage in the UK and on the intersectoral elements and connections between UNESCO World Heritage Sites and other UNESCO Designations such as Biospheres, Geoparks, Creative Cities and UNESCO University Chairs.

Applicants should complete and submit their application via the application form, with a short covering letter (max 2 sides A4) indicating the relevance of expertise, engagement & networks and the names of two referees. Applications are to be sent by 17:00 GMT on Tuesday 14 November to recruitment@unesco.org.uk.
