IHBC features ‘Heritage from the global doorstep’: Nearby buildings compromised by Brooklyn synagogue tunnel, officials say

New York City services have discovered potentially dangers arising from an illegal tunnel beneath the historic Chabad-Lubavitch synagogue in Brooklyn, and issued ‘order to vacate’ reports The Guardian.

The Guardian writes:

The illegal tunnel discovered beneath the historic Chabad-Lubavitch synagogue in Brooklyn was found to have compromised the stability of several structures surrounding the house of worship, New York City officials said….

City inspectors determined the size of the tunnel to be 60ft long and 8ft wide. It extended underneath other nearby buildings, cutting through basement walls….
