IHBC Director Seán O’Reilly said: ‘Our Schools are learning-led, and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) – for members as well as wider network interests – is their critical starting point.  This year, hosted by the South Branch, we target some of the most challenging practice areas for those seeking IHBC accreditation, our Competences in ‘Legislation & Policy’ and ‘Finance and Economics’!

‘Anyone joining Reading will find rare and accessible expertise on offer across these areas especially focussed on the Friday Day School, 14 June, which is accessible both virtually and, in-person, as an easy day out from London and environs.’

‘Then, after a welcome from English Heritage Chair Gerard Lemos CMG CBE, Adala Leeson – takes on ‘Finance, Economics and Heritage…’, perfectly placed as a guide in her role Historic England’s lead on these matters.  Renowned conservation planning lawyer, and IHBC member, Charles Mynors then tackles ‘Legislation & Policy: Current challenges and opportunities…’, offering accessible guidance in this challenging cross-over area, including on issues around ‘new’ heritage!.’

And that’s just the start.  The day then drills down further into these matters, including how people are THE central resource if we want better conservation outcomes, and how informed place and project management can help save money and streamline processes.’

The IHBC writes:

… For Reading in 2024, our School offers IHBC CPD Certified learning and networking, in person and online, across up to 4 days, with the headline theme of ‘Place & Building Care: Finance, policy & people in conservation practice’. This allows interested delegates from any discipline to focus School learning on how to ‘Explore heritage conservation and planning challenges in managing buildings, property and places together’.

In terms of IHBC practice and accreditation, content at Reading will cover the specific areas of practice on our Conservation Cycle and allied practice models:

  • IHBC’s Competences: ‘Legislation & Policy’ and ‘Finance & Economics’
  • IHBC’s Area of Competence: ‘Management’…
