IHBC announces first award to Wales from our Conservation Area 50th Anniversary fund

IHBC CA Fund logoThe IHBC has welcomed the first successful application from a civic group in Wales for an award from the IHBC’s Conservation Area 50th Anniversary fund, as Cymdeithas Aberaeron Society secures help on a planned RTPI Cymru talk exploring the factors that influenced Aberaeron’s recent success in their ‘Wales Best Places’ awards, which celebrate ‘places protected, carefully planned or improved by the planning system.’

IHBC Director Seán O’Reilly said: ‘We are delighted to have this successful application from Wales, not only for its inherent value as a promotion of the importance of quality places, and how planning can help manage them, but as a sign that there is still much to build on for any successor body to the recently closed Civic Trust Cymru.’

Cymdeithas Aberaeron Society writes:

In 2016 the nationwide competition, Wales’ Best Places, organised by the Royal Town Planning Institute Cymru to celebrate places protected, carefully planned or improved by the planning system was won by Aberaeron.  Aberaeron is one of Wales’ first planned towns and since then has been developed and managed by the planning system to be a popular tourist destination and providing services to communities in its large rural hinterland.   Our Society is a heritage organisation working to celebrate, interpret and present the maritime, architectural and social history of the town and, to mark the success of Aberaeron in this competition, we would like to invite a representative of RTPI Cymru to give a talk on the factors which influenced the decision to present Aberaeron with this award. We believe that this would be of interest to local residents and tourists alike.’
