Elmbridge Borough Council has launched a new planning compliance service to carry investigations into breaches of planning control.

On Friday 25 August, the Mayor of Elmbridge – Councillor Rachael I Lake and Councillor Shweta Kapadia launched Elmbridge Borough Council’s new planning compliance service at the Civic Centre in Esher. On the day of the launch, officers spoke to members of the public to explain the workings of the new service.
Under this new and proactive service, uniformed officers will be seen out and about in the Borough as they carry out investigations into alleged breaches of planning control.
Although the Council is unable to investigate issues around party walls, boundary disputes and land ownership, officers can look into a range of breaches of planning control including: unauthorised development, breaches of the conditions attached to planning permissions, works to a Listed Building without consent, unauthorised felling or works to a tree protected by a Tree Preservation Order or in a Conservation Area, untidy land where it affects the amenity of the area and unauthorised engineering operations.
Councillor Karen Randolph, Portfolio Holder for Planning, said: ‘The Council is committed to providing an effective planning compliance service, which underpins the planning decision making of the Council, and will take steps where it is the appropriate course of action. In every case, the Council will seek to negotiate a satisfactory resolution without a costly legal process. It is easy to report a breach of planning control on the Council’s website and all reports are treated in confidence.’
