IHBC notes RTPI consultation seeking employer feedback on proposed apprenticeship degree scheme – closing 6 Nov

Working with employers, the RTPI is looking to establish a Degree Apprenticeship for Chartered Town Planners in England, with the consultation closing on 6 November.

The RTPI writes:

The aim is to start courses from as early as September 2018, subject to government approvals and delivery arrangements with accredited universities. The apprenticeships would combine academic education with vocational training to equip future employees with vital skills as well as a degree. This consultation seeks feedback from employers and universities

Chartered Town Planner Apprenticeship Standard Consultation
New apprenticeship standards are being developed as a result of Government’s apprenticeship reforms in England.  These new standards describe the high level knowledge, skills and behaviours required to carry out a defined occupation.  The employer led groups developing new standards are called Trailblazers.

Trailblazers develop standards that comply with the criteria set by the Institute for Apprenticeships.  The standard must:

  1. Be a short document (maximum of 3 sides of A4)
  2. Describe an occupation which is defined and distinct with minimum overlap with other apprenticeship standards
  3. Require the apprentice to undertake a minimum of 12 months development with at least 20% off the job learning
  4. Include reference to the apprentice having achieved English and Maths to at least Level 2

The RTPI is working with the Chartered Town Planner Apprenticeship Trailblazer Employer Group to develop a new apprenticeship standard for Chartered Town Planners upon which the Group would like to gain your feedback.  A list of organisations represented on the Group can be seen by clicking here. Before completing the survey please review the draft standard by clicking here.   The survey should take you no more than 10 minutes to complete.

Please complete this survey by 6 November 2017.

  • If you are an employer, you can respond to the survey here.
  • If you work for a university, you can respond to the survey here.

You can complete the survey anonymously but there is an option to enter your contact details if you would like to be kept updated about the project.  Your personal details and other information will only be used for the purposes of the survey and will not be disclosed to any third parties.
