The Theatre Royal Plymouth has been listed in recognition of its importance as an example of post-war repertory theatre, an honour touted by the sector’s news lead, The Stage.
The Stage writes:
It has been made a grade II-listed building by Historic England. The listing means it has extra legal protection within the planning system.
Historic England said the theatre had been listed ‘for its sophisticated design’ and for its technological interest, including its ‘moveable auditorium roof’. In addition, Historic England said the venue, built by Peter Moro, was an ‘important example of post-war repertory theatre’.
The venue was built in 1972, and completed in 1982.
