IHBC responds to HE consultation on ‘Statements of Heritage Significance’

IHBC consultations webpageThe IHBC has submitted its response to the Historic England (HE) consultation on its draft Advice Note on Statements of Heritage Significance.

IHBC writes:

The IHBC is concerned that the draft document provides advice on a ‘one-size-fits-all’ basis. The IHBC believes it is necessary to set out different approaches to the assessment of significance for different types of heritage asset (listed building, conservation area, registered park and garden, buried archaeology, etc.). Furthermore, the draft note fails to provide detailed advice on how to actually carry out an assessment of heritage significance or how to present the findings. IHBC suggests that a fundamental rethink is required about the type of advice and the audience.
