RIBA Awards 2020: Jury Application – call for volunteers

The RIBA is calling for volunteers to help judge the RIBA Awards in 2020. Every judge plays a crucial part in a rigorous and thorough process that leads ultimately to the RIBA Stirling Prize, so apply now to be part of the panels for 2020.

RIBA writes:

The task of judging buildings is a fascinating one. It carries the responsibility for upholding and celebrating the highest standards of architectural design. Judging involves balancing the complexities that any building project will have faced, with aesthetic, sustainability and sometimes conservation considerations, as well as the local context. It requires an examination of the client’s brief and how intelligently and creatively that has been fulfilled, while taking into account the constraints of budget and planning. It means taking a collective view and having a clear vision on what constitutes architectural excellence. It is not necessarily an easy task, but it is an immensely rewarding one. It offers the chance to influence the most high-profile activity of the year in architecture while presenting excellent opportunities for personal and professional development.

Judges will be invited to participate in one of two judges’ training days taking place in London and Birmingham in February 2020.

Please note: in order to ensure a rotation of RIBA Awards judges, those who participated on RIBA Regional Awards judging panels in 2019 must wait until the 2021 process to re-apply…
