IHBC’s 2022 AGM update: Business concluded with Board appointed and resolutions passed, as next phase of modernisation commences

The IHBC held its first AGM under the new Articles on 24 February, with all business completed and resolutions passed – most notably the appointment of the new Board – while trustees and officers now look ahead to the next steps in the institute’s evolution.

IHBC Chair David McDonald said: ‘It was a real pleasure to chair the IHBC’s AGM on Thursday, particularly as it was so well attended.’

‘… we had reached a real milestone…’

‘As it was the first AGM following the adoption of the Institute’s new Articles of Association, I had the feeling that we had reached a real milestone. I am pleased that many of our former trustees are continuing to serve on the new Board and look forward to working with them and our new trustees during 2022.’

‘… delighted to thank those who have volunteered for these substantial public service roles…. and look forward to working together…’

IHBC President Mike Brown said: ‘I’m delighted to thank those who have volunteered for these substantial public service roles as trustees and directors of the IHBC, and look forward to working together as we move forward with the IHBC’s modernisation.’

IHBC Secretary Jo Evans Said: ‘In line with the new Articles adopted in 2020, trustee posts were available for all nominees so there was no need for competitive elections.  Consequently the adoption of the formal resolution to appoint the new Board marked both the high-point and the successful conclusion of business at our AGM.’

‘As this is our first Board appointed under the new Article, it is a hugely important step forward in the modernisation of our operations.’

… new approach will mark an enhanced level of member engagement inspired by our new governance…

IHBC Director Seán O’Reilly said: ‘The draft minutes of the meeting will be circulated for review as soon as practicable, before their formal adoption at the next AGM.  They will include feedback and further updates on the matters raised by all attendees in discussions after the AGM closed.  This new approach will mark an enhanced level of member engagement inspired by our new governance’.

‘At the same time, the National Office – supported especially by our volunteer advisory body, the ‘Governance Stage 2 Working Group’ (GS2WG) – will continue developing the new infrastructure and guidance appropriate to our Articles, subject of course to Board review, scrutiny and, as appropriate, approval.’

‘This approach continues the ongoing upgrade of national operations in line with our approved Corporate Plan, CCP25, to ensure that the IHBC can best support our charitable objects and, by extension, the aspirations our members.
