Good news for #IHBC25: Positive interim update on ‘LA Market Intelligence’ data for IHBC’s anniversary year

IHBC’s Bob Kindred OBE has offered NewsBlog readers an update on his research into ‘Conservation Officer’ posts in England – analysis of key data in our evolving profession that he has carried out since 1998, the year after the IHBC was established – which offers a glimmer of good news in these challenging times.

highest number of late winter and early spring advertised vacancies since 2006…

Bob Kindred writes:

IHBC members will be aware that the Institute publishes an Annual Market Intelligence Report in the IHBC’s ToolBox that identifies trends in recruitment of local authority conservation officer posts and evaluating and summarising job descriptions and person specifications.

With the core data going back to 1998, interesting interim data sometimes emerges quite early in the year and we have noted that the first quarter (January to March 2022) has seen the highest number of late winter and early spring advertised vacancies since 2006 – notwithstanding the current pressures on local authority resources. 74% of those were permanent posts rather than fixed-term initiatives.’

‘It will be interesting to see if this general upswing continues during the rest of 2022 as IHBC continues its monitoring.’
