IHBC launches essential ‘web starter’ in conservation – for new and old learners in all disciplines & sectors

The Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC), the UK’s professional body for conservation specialists, has launched a new web ‘starter guide’ to lead learners from all disciplines and sectors through the IHBC’s rich and accessible online resources, while also advising on career, educational and training opportunities’.

IHBC President Trefor Thorpe said: ‘I found this to be a truly excellent one-stop resource for newcomers to the IHBC’s website: it tells you all you need to know about what we do and how to take part. This sort of straightforward clarity is what marks the Institute out as a leader in the field.’

IHBC Chair Jo Evans said: ‘This will help all those who are thinking of joining us or who volunteer in the historic environment or have an interest in conservation. Sharing our knowledge and enthusiasm for the historic environment is what the IHBC is all about.’

IHBC Secretary Eddie Booth said: ‘There’s a lot here, of course, but length is not a problem as it is broken down with headings and sub-sections appropriate to our attention-deficit age.’

‘And it is also worth saying that this is relevant to old hands as well as new students because it shows the breadth of our ‘offer’, which should be very refreshing for anyone!’

IHBC Director Sean O’Reilly said: ‘This must be the essential starting point for anyone who wants to see their way around conservation: how it works; why we do it and how best to contribute, learn and, hopefully, develop real money-earning skills! The IHBC is a UK body of course, but the lessons to be learned through our guidance and resources are relevant across the globe, as well as across disciplines.’
