Seán O’Reilly, IHBC Director, welcomed the Heritage and Doors Open Days, now scheduled for across the UK. He said: ‘At times of global financial crisis, it’s easy for governments to forget just how much people care about their special buildings and places. Across the UK these Open Days highlight the challenges of conserving and caring for our historic areas, as they look at new buildings – the heritage of the future – as well as old. The Open Days are a salutary reminder of how looking after places demands anticipating the future as much as investigating the past, and how many votes are out there for governments that know how to help us care for places properly’.
