IHBC supports roofing skills training by GCHT-NFRCS-CITB: places still open!

The Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC) is supporting a critical local initiative in Scotland to help train roofing contractors in heritage works, as it contributes to a 6-day training programme led by the Glasgow City Heritage Trust (GCHT) and the National Federation of Roofing Contractors Scotland (NFRCS), funded by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), and with places still available!

GCHT-NFRC writes:
This 6 day training course co-ordinated by NFRC and Glasgow City Heritage Trust will identify and build the skills and knowledge required to undertake work on roofs in historic buildings using ‘best practice’ conservation methods. It will assist contractors with developing the skills in their workforce to demonstrate they have the ability to work confidently with historic buildings when tendering for work.

The course will also outline best practice and problem solving to SME contractors when working on traditional buildings including the importance of matching materials such as slate, stone and mortar and how to do it. The course begins with a day-long overview for managers/directors of roo?ng businesses. This will then be followed by ?ve-day sessions offering more in-depth training and concentrating on one topic on each day.

IHBC Director Sean O’Reilly will contribute to the conservation principles and philosophy element of the course.
