IHBC extends private sector support for applicants: Free IHBC CPD ‘MATE’s update, for a CgMS audience

Kate KendallThe IHBC’s popular and free MATE seminars – our Membership Application Training Events, which support CPD-linked applications for IHBC accreditation – have taken a huge leap forward as planning consultancy CgMS hosted the first of a new IHBC seminar series that for private sector companies – including IHBC’s HESPR members – while CgMs welcomed the pilot as ‘… an excellent, bespoke seminar that wholly clarified the process of application for CgMS consultants.’

IHBC Director Seán O’Reilly said: ‘In these MATE seminars we offer talks and exercises to break down the application process, explore the IHBC’s Areas of Competence and our Conservation Cycle model, while answering any queries.  This ensures that applicants from any discipline or sector can get a common grounding in how the IHBC assesses interdisciplinary conservation standards in line with established international conservation standards and models.’

Jonathan Smith, Director of Built Heritage at CgMS Limited (part of the RPS Group), said: ‘This was an excellent, bespoke seminar that wholly clarified the process of application for CgMS consultants.’

‘Colleagues with diverse backgrounds and current work specialisms have not only grown the confidence and focus to make their applications, but have been motivated to take up IHBC membership through a full realisation of the benefits.’

‘The IHBC needs to brace itself for a rush of membership applications, for both associate and full levels, from CgMs colleagues.’

Kate Kendall, IHBC’s LETS Officer – supporting Learning, Education, Training and Standards in the institute – said: ‘Recently, with IHBC Director Sean O’Reilly, we led a membership seminar as part of an organisation-wide CPD training opportunity for CgMs staff.’

‘Our private-sector sessions are modelled on Branch-led training events, but tailored to respond to the primary experience of the delegates.  Designed to introduce the thinking and process to anyone seeking IHBC accreditation, they consist of an introductory talk and mentored exercises.  These help attendees feel more comfortable with a process that is for many – as we know from our substantial experience here – a challenging new CPD-experience in its own right.’

‘The session was developed and tailored to suit the time available considering the background of the member of the team. Feedback has been positive and it is hoped that applications will be forthcoming. If you are interested in hosting a seminar please get in touch with Kate Kendall to discuss the options.’
