Kate Kendall the IHBC’s LETS Officer has continued her travels across the UK, delivering IHBC accreditation application guidance and CPD to members and colleagues, most recently with her Membership Application Training Event (MATE) session at Historic Environment Scotland (HES) in Edinburgh on 7 February.
Elly McCrone, Head of Designations at Historic Environment Scotland and Full member of the IHBC, who helped to organise the Edinburgh MATE session said: ‘We had a great MATE session at Historic Environment Scotland, run by Kate and Fiona of the IHBC’s National Office, with a range of staff from across our organisation attending.’
‘For those like us, working in a squeezed sector where opportunities are scarce, something like IHBC membership is a fantastic way of setting yourself apart from the competition. And for those who might have to appear at public inquiries and appeals, having independent accreditation can be very helpful.’
‘As I also assess IHBC applications I was able to give my colleagues a bit more insight into how best to set out the knowledge and experience they have, while reassuring them that I don’t assess applications for anyone that I already know!’
Kate Kendall said: ‘It has been great to meet prospective and Affiliate members and help them understand the application process.’
‘Feedback has been hugely encouraging, not least as attendees clearly go away feeling a lot less daunted by it all.’
‘Two attendees from Historic Environment Scotland were so enthusiastic about membership that they have signed up for affiliate membership and are making a start on their applications for full membership.’
Fiona Newton said: ‘The attendance at the HES MATE session demonstrated how people from a wide variety of professional backgrounds are united by their skills in conservation and their interest in gaining recognition for those skills from the IHBC’.
