Historic Environment Scotland is making a major investment in Scotland’s conservation training as it seeks 10 trainees in its Conservation Directorate – from engineering to climate change – currently advertised at IHBC Jobs etc, and with salary starts at £17,500 and closing 8 April, all part of ‘an investment of around £500k each year by HES to fund paid traineeships.’
Posts close on 8 April and all salary bands are £17500 – £18451:
- Civil/Structural Engineer Trainee
- Stone Conservator Trainee
- Digital Documentation Trainee
- Conservation Science Trainee
- Digital Innovation Trainee
- Technical Conservation and Research Trainee
- Conservation Outreach and Education Trainee
- Architectural Assistant Trainee
- Collections Management Trainee
- Climate Change Trainee
Ian Walker of HES said: This is the 2nd year of running our trainee programs which in past was the Interns was program and we are recruiting as one block for the traineeships.’
‘This is an ongoing commitment from HES along with 6 craft fellow places & 6 traditional craft apprentices (which will advertised at a later date) to bring traditional skills & the understanding of traditional materials to the fore once again. This is an investment of around £500k each year by HES to fund paid traineeships in a number of areas.’
‘These traineeships are unique and will see the individuals working on the HES estate along with external placements in the sector.’

We are seeking 10 trainees across our Conservation Directorate. Trainees will have the opportunity to gain experience in their chosen field of conservation, increase knowledge of the wider conservation sector, expand their professional network and have access to the Engine Shed learning resources.
