CCC’s Call for Evidence to inform advice on UK’s Sixth Carbon Budget… closes 5/02

The Committee on Climate Change (CCC) has launched a new Call for Evidence – closing 5 February – to inform its advice to the UK Government on the Sixth Carbon Budget, due to be published in September 2020.

The CCC writes:

The Sixth Carbon Budget, required under the Climate Change Act, will provide ministers with the Committee’s recommendation on the level of greenhouse gases the UK can emit during the period 2033-2037. It will set out a pathway to meeting the UK’s new net-zero emissions target in 2050, and is the first carbon budget to be legislated following that commitment.

Responses to the Call for Evidence will help to inform the Committee’s analysis over the next six months. It covers five key topics:

  • Climate science and international circumstances
  • The path to the 2050 target
  • Delivering carbon budgets
  • Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland and
  • Emissions reductions in key sectors of the UK economy

In addition, the Committee is seeking input on Wales’ third carbon budget and interim emissions targets.

The Call for Evidence is open to all. The Committee is particularly keen to hear from organisations and individuals from business, industry, Parliament, Government and local Government, civil society and academia, as well as members of the public.
