The IHBC welcomed The London Historic Buildings Trust (LHBT) – the only London-wide building preservation trust, and formerly Heritage of London Trust Operations – and its new identity, alongside an ambitious new Strategic Plan with objectives to deliver ‘real and meaningful social impacts through future projects’.
IHBC President David McDonald said: ‘I have long been an admirer of the Operations arm of the Heritage of London Trust. I’m sure its excellent record in rescuing buildings at risk in disadvantaged areas will continue and expand with its new title and Strategic Plan’.
IHBC Director Seán O’Reilly said: ‘This is just the sort of re-vitalisation and re-focus that can help lift conservation and heritage regeneration onto a more firm footing across national and political agendas. It’s great to see the National Lottery Heritage Fund being put to such beneficial and strategic use through its Resilient Heritage programme.’

The Strategic Plan is a defining moment in the Trust’s history and is the culmination of a year-long Resilient Heritage project funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, to reassess the Trust’s future.
Through the Plan, the Trust makes a firm commitment to undertaking projects that support its three newly defined social impact objectives for local communities in Greater London. The objectives are to:
- create better places for people to live, work and visit;
- ensure local heritage will be in better condition, more widely recognised, and better understood and valued;
- work to support a sustainable environment.
The Strategic Plan was unveiled at a launch event at the Grade II listed heritage at risk Tin Tabernacle, Kilburn, where the Trust’s Chairman Diana Beattie, said: ‘We will continue our project work addressing Heritage at Risk across London while developing social impact and addressing opportunities such as High Street Heritage Action Zones, based on our strong track record in rescuing interesting but challenging buildings since 1992.’
Celia Mead, Interim Director, said: ‘This moment represents a new strategy, new identity and branding, new commitment to social impact while strengthening our structure and exploring new types of fundraising. It puts us in the place where we can rescue London’s heritage for the long term.’

…. LHBT is the only London-wide building preservation trust. It delivers successful, high quality heritage-led projects, re-using historic architecture throughout Greater London to create sustainable projects, innovative social solutions and cultural benefits for future generations. It was set up in 1992 as the Heritage of London Trust Operations Ltd (HOLTOP) and was rebranded in 2019.
It works closely with Historic England to remove problem or difficult buildings from the Heritage at Risk register and develops strong partnerships with local authorities, housing associations, NHS Trusts, community groups and other building preservation trusts.
