IHBC President & Vice President: Call for nominees to lead members’ new Council – ‘Statements’ due 27/09, Voting in virtual Council, 19/10

Following confirmation by the IHBC Board of interim terms and procedures for the officers of our new Council, the IHBC is calling for suitably qualified nominees to stand for election as IHBC President and IHBC Vice President at the Council on 19 October, with initial submissions due by 27 September.

… we can move ahead with the next stage in the modernisation of our governance…

The appointment of the President and Vice President rests with the IHBC’s new Council, our inclusive advisory and training body as established under the Articles as agreed from 2020.

IHBC Chair David McDonald said: ‘I’m delighted that we now have these new arrangements in place, so we can move ahead with the next stage in the modernisation of our governance.  On 19 October next our Council will elect our President and Vice President, who will serve also as Chair and Vice Chair of the Council.’

IHBC Director Seán O’Reilly said: ‘The Board has approved these trial terms and procedures to test out in our first Council elections.’

… developed from existing arrangements while also reflecting our new Articles…

‘In line with recent practice in our ongoing modernisation and ‘experimental evolution’, these have been developed from existing arrangements while also reflecting our new Articles, corporate ambitions and the accessibility and inclusion offered by our digital platforms.’

To stand for election as President nominees must:

  • Have capacity to serve as President for a 2 year-term
  • Commit to at least 8 meetings a year, ‘virtual’, blended and in person, and to undertake relevant networking and promotion of the IHBC and our members’ interests

  • Be a Full Member of IHBC, able to demonstrate active participation in the affairs of the institute at regional, national and/or international levels.

For those seeking election as Vice President the requirements are similar but also recognise that the post-holder will develop skills and knowledge as Vice President before succeeding the President after their two year term.
