IHBC Director Sean O’Reilly said: ‘Our NewsBlog updates on career opportunities posted on the ‘IHBC Jobs etc.’ service capture the huge variety of roles that employers are looking to us to fill.’

‘Any NewsBlog update ranges widely across sectors, skills, employers, locations and role.  But all have one special consideration in common: the reach across our members and networks as they seek the right profile of competences in the no less diverse practice of conservation.’

More recent jobs range from the Historic Building Fabric Manager for the Houses of Parliament to the Twentieth Century Society’s: Chair of the Board, The London Diocesan Fund’s Building Advsier and the Letchworth Garden City’s search for Design Development Officers.  At other ends of the process and profile, a Project Manager was sought for the Waltham Abbey Royal Gunpowder Mills, and a Historic Buildings Curator for Historic Royal Palaces and City Heritage Trusts seeking a Traditional Buildings Inspector and a Heritage Fund/Grants Officer.

Other key employers representing sectors looking to us include Historic England (Carbon and Sustainability Manager), the National Trust for Scotland (Building Surveyors); The Landmark Trust (Principal Quantity Surveyor); Perth and Kinross Heritage Trust (City Heritage Fund/Grants Officer) and an Operations Manage for Rose of Jericho.

Council services, as ever feature strongly too, often seeking more nuanced range of conservation skills that tend to reflect their planning pressures and aspirations.  A trawl of current and recent posts includes, in Dorset, a Senior Conservation Officer for Spatial Planning and Majors; Wakefield’s Senior Conservation & Design Officer and Conservation Officer; Teignbridge’s Conservation Officer; Derbyshire’s Conservation and Urban Design Officer, and Manchester City’s Planning Officer (Urban Design and Heritage).

‘Clearly all our Jobs etc posts reflect the exceptionally wide spectrum of relevant roles encompassed by the IHBC’s accreditation model, the IHBC Areas of Competence, and the skills represented there.’

‘To find out more on such matters, our MATE  and related sessions support accreditation, while they also delve into the IHBC’s Competences and Conservation Cycle.  As such they help applicants’ align their skills to the principles we use to assess interdisciplinary competence, all in line with national and international conservation practice standards.’
