IHBC President Mike Brown announced the opening of the booking for the Institute’s 2023 Annual School, the major training event in the UK’s built and historic environment conservation calendar, to IHBC members attending the Council on 30 March. The IHBC’s 2023 Annual School will look at challenges and solutions for the Historic Environment, and take place online and in Swansea.

The School programme includes:
- the 2023 School’s online launch at our School MarketPlace:LIVE, on the evening of 21 June, free and open to all. The ‘MarketPlace:LIVE’ is part of our upgraded Heritage MarketPlace service, the IHBC’s on-line listing of services and advice linked to our networks.
- the stand-alone Day School on Friday 23, including the Annual Dinner, and
- for Full School delegates, School tours, on Thursday 22 June and Saturday 24 June, as well as an opening Reception on the Thursday evening.

Launching Swansea School booking Mike Brown reported to Council delegates: ‘Our expert speakers will look at the current best practice around climate change. The School will not only provide delegates with information but also answers on climate change and retrofit. We’re inviting members and non-members and anyone with an interest in managing our historic environment and mitigating climate change to join us to consider the challenges and solutions.’
The School delegate options include Full School (which includes the Day School, two study tour days/half-days, Annual Dinner, Reception and the School MarketPlace:LIVE), the one-day standalone in-person Day School option, and the online Day School.
All delegates, virtual and in-person, are have inclusive and priority access to the IHBC’s free and learning-led virtual ‘MarketPlace:LIVE’, on Wednesday 21 June.
Day School speakers include Carolyn Hayles on Coping with Climate Change and John Edwards considering the benefits and dangers of complying with standards. Along with a lively panel discussion with experts from all avenues looking at ‘How can climate change mitigation & heritage conservation be compatible?’
