IHBC issues 2024 AGM notice – online from 5.30PM, 30/04 – as Robyn Pender asks ‘… Why exactly are we using so much energy in buildings…’ with all members welcome as we look ahead to #IHBCpetitionforcharter and #IHBCReading2024

The IHBC has sent all members the 2024 AGM’s formal notice – April 30, online proceedings from 5.30PM – also featuring Robyn Pender, Director, Whethergauge, on ‘Taming the Elephant in the Room: Why exactly are we using so much energy in buildings in the first place’ – as registration for all IHBC members opens, and we look ahead to #IHBCReading2024 and #IHBCpetitionforcharter.

IHBC Chair David McDonald said: ‘While formal business, such as finance and elections, lie at the heart of all our Annual General Meetings – and this AGM more than many, as we seek formal support to explore the idea of petition for charter in more detail – we do also try to serve up some very special learning and CPD for our members.’

‘And this year is very special for our CPD too, as we are both delighted and privileged to welcome to our pre-AGM event Robyn Pender, formerly of Historic England and now Director of Whethergauge Limited.  Robyn is well-known as one of the most respected authorities on how people and buildings can work better together to save energy.’

‘We all know we need to tackle climate change as an intrinsic duty in conservation, but Robyn will offer delegates a wise alternative approach on how we can deliver that, founded on her unique blend of skills across science, history and conservation.’

IHBC Director Sean O’Reilly said: ‘Robyn’s work is especially relevant this year too.  Her take on buildings and people is absolutely central to the themes running across our 2024 Reading School – #IHBCReading2024 – including the informed, efficient use and care of property, shaping meaningful policy, and working with changing legislation.  As Robyn was not available to join us in Reading, we are particularly delighted to have her kickstarting our hugely important 2024 AGM proceedings, and adding to this free programme even more of our special CPD.’

Robyn Pender, whose presentation is entitled ‘Taming the elephant in the room: ‘Why exactly are we using so much energy in buildings in the first place?‘, writes:

… how to make effective, inexpensive and low-risk transformation…. to tackle the climate emergency…

We’ve become so caught up with all the confusing messages about how to deal with the climate emergency, that we’ve forgotten the proverbial elephant: why exactly are we using so much energy in buildings in the first place? What did people do before we started burning fossil fuels? This knowledge changes everything. History and science – physics, biology – both point to a revolutionary approach to understanding of the problem, that shows us how to make effective, inexpensive and low-risk transformation, at the speed we need to tackle the climate emergency.

The IHBC writes to IHBC members:
