Locality partners to deliver £9.5m of neighbourhood planning

A partnership led by Locality and including IHBC past-chair and HESPR designated adviser Dave Chetwyn, is providing a new programme of support and grants to help communities create neighbourhood plans, with £9.5m funding available.

IHBC past-chair and designated service adviser on the IHBC’s business listing HESPR, Dave Chetwyn, in his role as Managing Director of Urban Vision Enterprise CIC, said: ‘Urban Vision is very pleased to be involved with this important programme. Communities are already demonstrating that they are well able to plan for the future of their local neighbourhoods and to take tough decisions to secure sustainable growth’.

Locality writes:
People can use neighbourhood plans to shape development in their community, such as the location of new housing and businesses.

Programme & fund open 1 May
The Neighbourhood Planning fund and support programme will open on 1 May 2013 and last for two years. Groups will be able to bid for up to £7,000 each to help them produce their plan.

More than 500 communities across England are making use of the new neighbourhood planning powers. This funding will be available to them, as well as new groups coming forward.

Locality and partners will deliver programme
Locality will be delivering the new programme in partnership with Royal Town Planning Institute, Planning Aid England, the Community Development Foundation, Urban Vision Enterprise, Eden Project and URS.

Steve Wyler, CEO of Locality, said: ‘We’re delighted to be awarded the neighbourhood planning contract to provide support to communities across the country wanting to transform their local area.

‘Locality has experience of working with pioneering groups to design their own neighbourhood plans. This is an exciting opportunity, with guidance and grants enabling many more people to design their own environments and create sustainable solutions which meet the needs of those who live there.’

Full details of the fund and support will be available from 15 April at: www.mycommunityrights.org.uk
