HS2 Ltd seeks ‘Expressions of Interest’ for salvage of ‘historic building materials’

HS2 imageWhilst the amount of destruction caused by HS2 is regretted by many, HS2 Ltd now seeks organisations interested in receiving salvaged building materials that may become available in the course of enabling works.

HS2 Ltd writes:

I am writing to enquire if your organisation would be interested in receiving salvaged building materials that may become available in the course of enabling works for the construction of the new High Speed Rail link (HS2) between London and Birmingham.

HS2 Ltd have sought to avoid direct impacts on built heritage assets throughout the development of the route and the design of the rail network. Where avoidance has not been practicable, a programme of heritage mitigation is being delivered in accordance with the requirements of the High Speed Rail Act (London to West Midlands) 2017 and the practices and principles adopted in line with that Act. As part of this programme of works, our contractors are identifying historic building materials fixtures and fittings with the potential for recovery and re-use within the wider historic environment.

We are looking to establish a database of potential recipients for the types of items listed below that we anticipate may become available through the course of the works. Please note that this list is provisional, items are not guaranteed to become available, and there is no commitment to timescales for releasing materials.

There will be no charge levied for any items of architectural salvage, in accordance with HS2’s Accounts Receivable Procedure and Process. Arranging transport for, and collection of, salvaged items will be the responsibility of the recipient. Where practicable the recipient will be advised no later than two weeks in advance of the commencement of demolition to allow time to arrange collection including liaison with the demolition contractor to finalise practical arrangements.

Please complete the pro-forma attached should you wish to express an interest and return to myself either via email or post (details are on the form attached). Should your organisation know of another organisation that may be interested please feel free to forward this email and the attached form for their attention.
