IHBC signposts BBC on film: ‘Looking after thousands of Northern Ireland’s abandoned mines’

There are more than 2,500 abandoned mines dotted across Northern Ireland, and BBC News NI was granted access to one outside Templepatrick in County Antrim.

BBC News writes:

BBC News NI was granted access to one [mine] outside Templepatrick in County Antrim.

The Department for the Economy now owns and monitors all abandoned mines in Northern through an online interactive map.

The last coal mine closed in Coalisland, County Tyrone, in 1970.
