Reminder: New IHBC research resource for 2023 and #IHBC25: ‘…connect conservation practice and research as we plan our ‘IHBC Research for Practice Digest’

This NewsBlog kickstarts plans for our new ‘IHBC Research for Practice Digest’ in this anniversary year, #IHBC25, to help connect research and conservation practice, as we seek views, feedback, suggestions and ideas on a first draft for Issue 1.

… especially keen on your feedback, thoughts and suggestions…

Chris Wood, IHBC Education Committee Chair, said: ‘We are finally starting to collate research supporting and informing conservation practice.’

‘For now we are planning an occasional ‘IHBC Research for Practice Digest’ on our NewsBlogs, but we anticipate more comprehensive, stand-alone issues of a ‘Digest’ in 2023.’

Seán O’Reilly said: ‘We have had remarkable success with our CPD Circular (sample HERE and background HERE), linking cost-effective learning, training and education from very diverse sources with practitioners and their CPD priorities.  That is a clear marker of our success in such matters.’

‘We think the IHBC can also help better connect research and conservation practice, but only if we can offer the right service.’

‘So, to give NewsBlog readers and networks an idea of our very informal thoughts to date, and the chance to help shape and inform the final look, we’ve brought together a ‘rough cut’ of the sort of content we think might be useful’.

Michael Netter, IHBC Professional Services Officer, said: ‘The CPD Circular started with NewsBlog posts on Branch events from across the UK, so our NewsBlog service seem the best way to raise awareness, call for thoughts, and test the thinking around capturing and promoting research that supports conservation practice.’

‘At this stage we are especially keen on your feedback, thoughts and suggestions, from across all the IHBC membership as well as our wider networks.  That will help us identify priorities for research and knowledge gaps in professional practice, whether broad-based or highly specific.  These can be emailed directly to me at services@ihbc.org.uk.’
