IHBC Director Sean O’Reilly said: ‘Our NewsBlog updates on career opportunities posted on the ‘IHBC Jobs etc.’ service capture the huge variety of roles that employers are looking to us to fill.’

‘Any NewsBlog Jobs etc update ranges widely across sectors, skills, employers, locations and role, but all have one special consideration in common: they target IHBC members, their skills  and our networks to best secure the right profile they need, of skills, knowledge and experience in conservation and related discipline and roles.’

… strong push for top managerial roles…

Recent posts show a strong push for top managerial roles in building conservation charities, including Oxford Preservation Trust’s Chief Executive Officer and the Executive Manager for Great Yarmouth Preservation Trust, with the V&A Museum’s Senior Estate Manager & Estate Manager (Building Fabric) no less substantial given the  global profile of the employer.

Recent jobs are also varied.  We have seen Cardiff University’s call for a ‘Building Conservation Teacher’ and the Rural Buildings Manager for Lord Rayleigh’s Farms Ltd, as well as Stephen Levrant’s call for ‘experienced’ Conservation Architect and Heritage Consultant, all of which sits well beside Historic England’s call for an Architect/Surveyor (East of England).  That last included an Assistant Listing Adviser, marking more of a mature skills set but probably still in an early career role.

All also show well how a strategic posting of roles can add further value to the already cost-effective service offered by the IHBC’s Jobs etc  service’, as clearly no other career planning platform offers such a diverse but still relevant range of options for conservation practitioners and specialists seeking career change and progress.’

…public benefit and interest embodied in the IHBC’s practice and ethical standard…

Non-profit and public services are naturally especially well aware of the public benefit and interest embodied in the IHBC’s practice and ethical standards too.

The variety is especially evident across such bodies and posts as the National Churches Trust seeking a Project Manager,  Norwich Historic Churches Trust and their search for a Property and Conservation Manager; the Senior Conservation Officer and Conservation Officer roles at North Kesteven and Forest of Dean District Councils respectively.  Different aspects of practice are evident too, such as the Deputy Team Leader (Placemaking) and Heritage Officer at Liverpool City Council and the City of Yorks’ search for an Ancient Monuments Project Officer and, with a decidedly more rural context, the hopefully expanding South Downs National Park Authority’s call for a Conservation Officer.

…recognition of the complex role of historic fabric and its care in securing our collective futures….

‘All these reflect the many pressures on places and their building stock, their care and significance.  The use of the IHBC’s service also confirms wider recognition of the complex role of historic fabric and its care in securing our collective futures, from supporting communities to managing carbon.’

‘The private sector is of course responsible for the care and curation of the vast majority of our heritage resources.  So it is both gratifying and heartening to see our networks’ regard for our standards with the strong performance on the Jobs etc services from more commercially-focussed operations.’

For this round, for example, Savills seeks a Consultant/Senior Consultant (Heritage and Townscape), Donald Insall Associates an Historic Buildings Advisor/Senior Historic Buildings Advisor and Manorwood a Planning Consultant (Heritage led).

‘Clearly all our Jobs etc posts reflect the exceptionally wide spectrum of relevant roles encompassed by the IHBC’s accreditation model, the IHBC Areas of Competence, and the skills represented there.’

‘To find out more on such matters, our MATE  and related sessions support accreditation, while they also delve into the IHBC’s Competences and Conservation Cycle.  As such they help applicants’ align their skills to the principles we use to assess interdisciplinary competence, all in line with national and international conservation practice standards.’
