IHBC Chair David McDonald said: ‘With dedicated profiles and guidance posted on our webpages, and available in person from our trustees and officers as well as our staff and consultants, we are especially encouraging members of all categories to engage with our governance and voluntary roles as our 2024 AGM approaches.’

‘For those accredited members ready to take their involvement to a new level, we’re also encouraging you to look ahead to a role as a trustee and guiding member of the Board, whether in this year or further down the line.’

‘For 2024 we are highlighting Board profile gaps around career stages (early and mid-career), diversity and fundraising or marketing, as we encourage Board nominations representative of our membership, as we build on the 2022 ‘Board statement on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion’.’

‘Using our powers of co-option trustees, we’re already delighted to welcome two co-opted trustees, Sarah Khan and Shantanu Subramaniam, while we hope the new elections will help improve our Board profile even more.’

‘As ever, I am happy to answer any questions members might like to raise, as are all our Board members and officers.’

… a resolution tied to recent progress in our explorations around a petition for a Royal Charter…

IHBC Secretary Jo Evans said: ‘We will soon be writing to all members to formally notify them of arrangements for the 2024 AGM, which will take place online.’

‘As the AGM is a critical moment in our cycle of governance, all members of any category are of course encouraged to attend.  This year the AGM is especially resonant as we will submit a resolution tied to recent progress in our explorations around a petition for a Royal Charter.’

‘Among other business matters at the AGM, our accredited members – that is Associates, Full Members and Retired – will vote on the election of our new Board of Trustees.   Remember too that formal roles and posts are open to accredited members only, and subject to the timely receipt of nominations, with details to be announced in the coming weeks’.’

‘Although our elections can be competitive, in practice we tend to have fewer nominations to the Board than we have Board positions.  So while trustee terms are for three years (renewable once) by default, current trustees and post-holders may take the opportunity to stand down if there are viable candidates keen to take the role.  In addition, we operate an elective rotation of those trustees and officers appointed when our new Articles were introduced in 2020, to ensure continuity over the long-term as well as capacity-building in the short term.’

‘So if you are interested in extending your skills by exploring a voluntary role as an IHBC trustee – and extending your networking CPD – best start by exploring our online guidance using the links below, and follow that up by contacting active volunteers, officers and staff as suits.’

‘In any case, if you are accredited by us, it is especially important that you take the time to explore our support material, including the Trustee Specifications, and to vote at our AGM when it is posted, ideally by proxy to minimise costs and complications.’
