The latest issue of the IHBC’s membership journal Context is now out, themed around exploring and learning from the ‘New Towns’ movement across and beyond the UK as it takes a ‘birds-eye’ view of the conservation contexts and challenges in their management and enhancement.
Context No. 162 features stories from Germany, France and the UK, and reflects on the legacy of the Bauhaus movement and socialist architectural styling in central Europe.
Readers will gain an appreciation for the origin of new towns: ‘History seems to show that urban civilisation depends on building new towns. In rediscovering how to do it we need to celebrate and learn from the examples around us’.
