IHBC’s 2020 AGM (#IHBCAGM2020) update 3: AGM online on 3 December, with ‘Corporate Plan 2020-25’ (‘CP25’) vote planned, while ‘Council+ postponed to 2021

The IHBC’s Council – its Board – has agreed to hold the Institute’s 2020 AGM on 3 December as an online, ‘virtual’ event, with voting planned on the new Corporate Plan (‘CP25’) and on modernising governance though the proposed new ‘Articles’, all with more details to come, including arrangements for the postponed Council+ programme.

The IHBC writes in ‘CP25’:

… CP25 continues CP20’s focus on the three primary activities that both frame our membership support and deliver on our charitable objects: helping people, helping conservation, and helping conservation specialists…

Our vision recognises that the future of historic fabric and places is best served by recognised and skilled conservation specialists, the conservation professional[s]… achieve their best outcomes when supported by an informed, independent and ethical professional body dedicated to supporting and advocating skills and careers as well as their practice principles, standards and objectives…

The IHBC recognises the urgent global and local threats of climate change, and the need to respond in a timely fashion. Consequently the institute promotes the care of the built and historic environment as an inherently sustainable strategy, including for carbon management. The recent IHBC ‘Position Statement’ on ‘Sustainability and Conservation of the Historic Built Environment’ makes that position explicit….

  1. Following the adoption of CP25 by the IHBC’s membership, a delivery plan will align Board, National Office, Committee, Branch and voluntary operations against its objects and actions. Again this follows practice already successfully tested in CP20 while building further on our ‘IHBC+’ programme…
