IHBC’s MATE update & recap for NewsBlog readers, from our Yorkshire Branch

The IHBC’s Professional Development Officer Ramona Usher has notched up another successful MATE with the Yorkshire Branch, again with positive feedback from delegates: friendly, approachable, personable and helpful and also demystifying!

Simon Reville, Chair of the Yorkshire Branch, attended the event and offers NewsBlog readers reports his take on our ‘Yorkshire Branch Mate Session’ as follows:

‘Ramona asked me as Chair of the Yorkshire branch, to write a few lines about the virtual MATE session I took part in recently. This is an interesting one, because although I am Chair of the Branch, I am also Affiliate member and seeking to gain further recognition (in addition to being an Architect Accredited in Building Conservation) for my skills, knowledge and experience that the full membership provides – I am therefore on the full membership journey to – that many others are considering, preparing for, or simply feel might be a little daunting.

…friendly, approachable, personable and helpful and also demystifying.

So, here is my take on the ‘virtual MATE’ session: friendly, approachable, personable and helpful and also demystifying.  Some participants were more advanced in the process than others, including those seeking to gain more insight into the process, through that personal interaction.

This brings me on to the topic of the session being ‘virtual’ – it was a great platform to keep in touch with fellow professionals we work with, meet new and also discuss parts of the historic environment we are familiar with.

…useful process for professional reflection and development and so don’t be afraid to apply.

Therefore, as this MATE session was specifically for the Yorkshire branch, it was great opportunity to identify others locally ‘in the same boat’.

But one last thing to take away from this session, is that the membership application is a process, a useful process for professional reflection and development and so don’t be afraid to apply.  New dates for the next MATE session for Yorkshire will be available and advertised in due course.’

In more informal attendee feedback, John Stonard wrote: ‘It was really informative and incredibly helpful: a huge advance on reading the information on the website.’

‘As the afternoon went and you worked methodically through the competencies I felt a great deal more positive.  Plenty of food for thought.’
